USA: job openings increase in August (Jolts)

(CercleFinance.com) - Job openings in the USA increased in August, according to the latest 'Jolts' survey published Tuesday by the Department of Labor.


The number of job openings reached eight million on the last day of August, compared with 7.7 million a month earlier, as strong employment in construction (+138,000) and administration (+78,000) more than offset weakness in services (-93.000).

On a year-on-year basis, however, the figure is down by 1.3 million jobs, which tends to indicate an easing of the labor market.

These data, which measure the evolution of labor demand in the United States, are being closely watched as they come three days ahead of the release of the official employment report, which will be published on Friday by the Department of Labor.
