USA: ISM manufacturing index unchanged in September

(CercleFinance.com) - Manufacturing activity remained stable in the United States in September, according to the monthly survey published on Tuesday by the Institute for Supply Management (ISM).


The ISM manufacturing index was unchanged last month at 47.2, the same level as in August, which already marked an annual low.

Economists were on average expecting a figure of around 47.

While the new orders sub-index rose by 1.5 percentage points to 46.1 from 44.6 the previous month, it still remains in contraction territory below the 50-point mark.

The employment sub-index fell to 43.9 from 46 in August.

Notably, the prices paid component fell sharply to 48.3, back below the 50 mark, indicating a contraction in prices for the first time this year, after 54 in August.
