USA: Manufacturing PMI down slightly in September
(CercleFinance.com) - The US manufacturing sector accelerated its contraction slightly in September, according to the S&P Global PMI index, which came in at 47.
3 for the month, compared with 47.9 for August, staying below 50 for the third consecutive month.
For the record, it is this 50-point threshold that separates expansion and contraction in a sector's activity: the lower the PMI is below this threshold, the faster the pace of contraction.
New orders saw their sharpest fall since June 2023 against a backdrop of weak demand and political uncertainty, while employment dropped the most sharply since 2010, excluding the Covid period.
