Volkswagen: developing solar power in Poland

(CercleFinance.com) - Volkswagen reports that last Friday, its Poznań (Poland) plant ran entirely on solar power for the first time, thanks to an on-site solar power plant that covered 100% of its electricity needs.

The solar farm, one of the largest in Europe, comprises 25,000 solar panels over 22 hectares and has a total capacity of 15.2 MW.

The solar farm, built in two phases with Quanta Energy, is expected to cover an average of 20% of the plant's electricity needs throughout the year.

The site, which notably produces the Volkswagen Crafter, is part of the Group's efforts to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040.

The Polish plants, which have already been using exclusively green energy since 2019, are planning further renewable energy projects, including a new 3.1 MW solar farm and the installation of wind turbines.
