Tesco: expands its rail transport service

(CercleFinance.com) - Tesco plans to move an additional 31 million cases a year via its UK rail network, with the introduction of a tenth rail service.


The new service will carry 600,000 cases a week, replacing over 90 truck journeys needed to move goods between Daventry and Widnes, reducing annual emissions by over 6,000 tonnes of CO2.

The total number of boxes moved by Tesco's rail network will reach over 300 million a year.

The service will operate six times a week and include deliveries to 198 stores, while helping suppliers such as L'Oréal and Heinz to reduce their own emissions.
