Siemens : Saft to supply batteries for seven trains

(CercleFinance.com) - Saft, a subsidiary of TotalEnergies, is supplying Siemens Mobility with lithium titanate oxide (LTO) traction batteries to power seven new-generation Mireo Plus H hydrogen trains operating in Germany.

The lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries form a hybrid power system with fuel cells to offer an intelligent alternative to diesel railcars. Mireo Plus H trains thus pave the way for autonomous, emission-free operation on long-distance routes without overhead power supply.

' Siemens Mobility is committed to reducing emissions in the mobility sector, and the development of our Mireo Plus H trains is an important step in the decarbonization of rail transport. We are proud that Siemens Mobility and Saft have cooperated and developed an adapted version of LTO technology, ideal for our hydrogen trains', said Albrecht Neumann, CEO of Siemens Mobility's Rolling Stock Division.
