Vodafone: Swisscom's takeover of Vodafone Italia approved

(CercleFinance.com) - Swisscom announced on Tuesday that the European Commission had authorized its planned acquisition of Vodafone Italia, a further step towards the imminent completion of the transaction.


The Swiss telecom operator explains that Brussels has completed its preliminary examination and has deemed that the transaction can be carried out without reservation.

Swisscom says that the acquisition of Vodafone Italia - initially announced last March - is on track to be completed in the coming months.

Swisscom explains that in May it secured the financing equivalent to E8bn required for the transaction, and received approval from the Italian Prime Minister's Office and the Swiss Competition Commission.

The transaction remains subject to further regulatory approvals, including that of the Italian competition authority, which recently decided to open an in-depth investigation into the operation.

Swisscom nevertheless says it expects to close the transaction in Q1 2025.
