TotalEnergies: Saft batteries for Cairo metro

(CercleFinance.com) - Saft, a subsidiary of TotalEnergies, announces that it has won a major contract from Japanese rolling stock manufacturer Kinki Sharyo to supply emergency batteries for 92 trains on line 4 of the Cairo metro, which is currently being built.

In the event of a power failure, these nickel MRX batteries will ensure up to one hour's operation of the new trains' critical electrical systems, notably for communications, door opening and air conditioning.

The first deliveries will begin in May 2025 and be completed by the end of 2026, with line 4 of the metro scheduled to enter service in 2028. Linking the east and west of Greater Cairo, this line will comprise 38 stations over a length of 42 km.
