Roche: launches test for respiratory viruses

(CercleFinance.com) - Roche launches the first test using its revolutionary TAGS technology for the simultaneous high-throughput detection of 12 respiratory viruses.


The new TAGS (Temperature-Activated Generation of Signal) technology enables the detection of up to 15 targets simultaneously in a single patient sample on the cobas 5800, 6800 and 8800 high-throughput molecular diagnostic analyzers.

The first TAGS-based test to be made available, the cobas Respiratory flex, offers rapid and efficient detection of up to 12 of the most common respiratory viruses with the flexibility of targeted testing, accelerating accurate diagnosis, optimizing antimicrobial use and saving laboratory time.

Many respiratory diseases have similar symptoms, making them difficult to diagnose. As respiratory epidemics, combined with the increasing incidence of antibiotic resistance, continue, accurate and rapid diagnosis is essential to provide the best patient care and curb transmission, Roche Diagnostics said.
