Syensqo: towards more economical water management

(CercleFinance.com) - Belgian chemicals group Syensqo unveiled "ambitious" water management targets on Friday, aiming to reduce freshwater withdrawals from sensitive sites by 20% by 2030.

To achieve this, the company explains that it intends to focus on 15 main sites, which will be equipped with specific water management plans addressing the risks and impacts linked to water quantity and quality, while supporting the company's growth ambitions.

In a press release, the company points out that more than two billion people in the world today have no access to drinking water, and that only 0.5% of the Earth's water is usable fresh water

This first objective dedicated to water management is part of its 'One Planet for Nature' plan, which was presented nine months ago to demonstrate its commitment to sustainable development.

By reducing its freshwater withdrawals by an average of almost 20% by 2030 compared with 2021, for sites exposed to water availability challenges, Syensqo expects to save more than seven million cubic meters of freshwater.

Syensqo says it has already succeeded in reducing its freshwater withdrawals by 12 million cubic meters in 2023 compared with 2021.
