Nestlé: invests in animal feed in UK

(CercleFinance.com) - Swiss food group Nestlé announced on Thursday that it would be investing £150m (around E180m) in its Purina animal feed factory, based in Wisbech, north of Cambridge.

The group states that this initiative is in addition to recent investments in other Purina production sites in the USA, Hungary and Brazil, against a backdrop of strong growth in the business.

While only representing 12% of the company's sales ten years ago, animal feed now generates around 20% of its annual sales.

The Wisbech plant, which produces the Felix and Gourmet cat food brands among others, will be equipped with production lines featuring new technologies and state-of-the-art equipment.

The project also aims to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.

Nestlé, which points out that the plant already employs around 600 people, says the investment plan will create 40 new jobs.

Work has already begun, and should be completed by early 2025.
