Airbus to supply solar panels to MDA Space

(CercleFinance.com) - Airbus has announced that it has been selected by MDA Space to supply solar panels for MDA AURORA TM , the range of software-defined satellite products enabling constellations to extend communication networks to the four corners of the globe.


Airbus will supply over 200 Sparkwing solar panels, which will be manufactured on a dedicated line at Airbus' high-capacity production plant in Leiden, the Netherlands.

This solar panel is the largest Sparkwing to date, consisting of two wings of five panels each, and offering a photovoltaic surface area of over 30 m².

' Our industrialized Sparkwing solar panel product not only meets the requirements of this revolutionary constellation project, but is also designed to guarantee optimum performance in space. Sparkwing solar panels are designed for mass production, perfectly suited to constellations, and we will thus contribute to a project enabling space connectivity', said Rob Postma, General Manager of Airbus in the Netherlands.
