BPCE: selected for the Agorá project
(CercleFinance.com) - Groupe BPCE has been selected, along with more than forty private sector banks and financial companies, to participate in the Agorá project to test the use of tokenization technology in cross-border payments.
The Bank for International Settlements (BIS), seven central banks, and the Institute of International Finance (IIF) are associated with this project.
The project will study how to efficiently connect commercial banks' tokenized deposits with tokenized central bank money (a digital version of the money issued by central banks), all within a programmable financial platform, bringing together public and private players.
Nicolas Namias, Chairman of the Management Board of BPCE, commented: 'True to its positioning as both a benchmark player in payments and a pioneer in innovation, Groupe BPCE is delighted to contribute to the success of the Agorá project through its recognized expertise in cross-border payments in Europe and worldwide, as well as its proven tokenization solutions.
