Ford: expands manufacturing in Chennai, India

(CercleFinance.com) - Ford has announced that it has submitted a letter of intent to the Tamil Nadu government, confirming its intention to use the Chennai plant to manufacture products for export.


This strategic decision will reorient the plant towards manufacturing products for export to global markets, as part of the company's strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

This step is intended to underline our ongoing commitment to India, as we intend to leverage the manufacturing expertise available in Tamil Nadu to serve new global markets, Ford says.

Ford currently employs 12,000 people in its global commercial operations in Tamil Nadu, a number that is expected to increase by 2,500 to 3,000 positions over the next three years.
