USA: small, unsurprising rebound in producer prices in August

(CercleFinance.com) - Producer prices rose at a pace in line with expectations in the USA in August, a development which shows that inflationary pressures are now better under control in the country.


The Producer Price Index (PPI) rose by 0.2% last month, after remaining unchanged in July, a figure in line with economists' forecasts.

Over a year, producer prices rose by 1.7%.

August's rise was mainly due to higher prices in services, which more than offset the fall in gasoline prices, show Labor Department figures.

Excluding energy, food and business services, producer prices posted a 0.3% gain, as in July.

Over a year, these 'core' producer prices were up by 3.3%.
