Alphabet: EU confirms Google's E2.4bn fine

(CercleFinance.com) - The Court of Justice of the European Union today announced that it had rejected Google and Alphabet's appeal against the European Commission's 2017 decision, confirming the 2.
4 billion euro fine imposed on Google.

This fine had been imposed for abusing its dominant position by favoring its own product comparison service over those of competitors in Internet search results.

The Court recalls that Union law is designed to prohibit the abuse of a dominant position, and confirms that Google's behavior in discriminating against its competitors in its search results does not fall within the scope of competition on merit.
