Carrefour: strategic partnership with Apparel in India

(CercleFinance.com) - Carrefour has announced a strategic franchise partnership with Apparel Group to establish a presence in India.


Apparel Group is a major retailer of clothing, food and beverages, with over 2,300 stores in 14 countries, including 250 in India, in more than 35 cities and 15 states.

The aim of the partnership is to develop Carrefour's presence initially in the North Indian region, and then throughout the country, with the first stores due to open in New Delhi in 2025.

With a population of over 1.4 billion, 46% of whom are under the age of 25, India is one of the world's largest food markets.

The opening up of the Indian market, in which only a few structured players operate, represents a strategic opportunity.

Patrick Lasfargues, Executive Director of Carrefour's International Partnership, said: "Carrefour's arrival in India marks an important step in our strategy to expand our franchise in more than 10 new countries by 2026.
