Nissan: LFP battery production certified in Japan

(CercleFinance.com) - Nissan has announced that its development and mass production of on-board lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries has been certified in Japan by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).

By developing and mass-producing LFP batteries, Nissan intends to gain a foothold in Japan by strengthening the supply chain for storage batteries and promoting the use of electric vehicles equipped with LFP batteries.

Makoto Uchida, Nissan's Chief Executive Officer, said that Nissan will adopt LFP batteries to meet diverse customer needs and offer more affordable electric vehicles. The batteries, which will be developed and mass-produced in Japan, will be installed in mini electric vehicles from fiscal year 2028. We aim to establish a base for LFP batteries in Japan by making the most of the government support approved by METI.
