Lufthansa: Frankfurt cargo hub to be modernized

(CercleFinance.com) - Lufthansa plans to invest 600 million euros to modernize its strategic logistics hub in the cargo zone at Frankfurt airport, the German airline announced on Friday.

The project, dubbed 'LCCevo' for 'Lufthansa Cargo Center' (LCC), aims to make the facility Europe's most modern airfreight hub by 2030.

In a press release, the carrier says it intends to update not only its handling operations, but also its conveyor belt and storage processes, as well as its offices and technology systems.

Covering an area of 330,000 m2 - the equivalent of 46 soccer pitches - the LCC is already one of Europe's leading cargo sites.

Since its inauguration in 1982, the LCC has operated 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Lufthansa explains that, while the renovation will be carried out gradually in several stages, construction work has already begun.
