Ericsson: successful trial of holographic calls

(CercleFinance.com) - Telefónica, Ericsson and MATSUKO have collaborated to integrate holographic calling directly into smartphone dialer applications, without the need for additional applications.


Using IMS Data Channel technology, the partners have demonstrated a successful proof-of-concept, where a real-time hologram of the caller's face and torso is transmitted to the recipient via a 5G smartphone.

This project is part of the European 6G-XR initiative and highlights the potential of future 5G and 6G voice services, leveraging existing telephony infrastructures while introducing immersive and interactive communication capabilities.
