EDF: French nuclear output for 2024 revised upwards

(CercleFinance.com) - EDF announced on Monday evening that it has revised upwards its estimate for nuclear production in France in 2024, in view of the good industrial performance of its nuclear fleet since the start of the year.

In a brief press release, the French energy company states that it is now targeting production of between 340 and 360 terawatt-hours for the year as a whole, compared with an initial forecast of between 315 and 345 TWh.

The Group explains this upward revision by the improved performance of unit shutdowns, industrial control of inspections and repairs linked to the stress corrosion issue, and the absence of any major climatic contingency during the summer.

This announcement comes as the French Nuclear Safety Authority (ASN) yesterday gave the go-ahead for the launch of 'divergence' operations on the Flamanville EPR reactor.

This green light will enable EDF to launch operations to start the nuclear chain reaction in the reactor, known as 'divergence', explains the ASN.

The agency explains that, at the end of August, EDF submitted the information required for this approval, in particular the results of the installation tests carried out since commissioning was authorized.

The ASN also explains that it has carried out several inspections of the reactor since it was commissioned, and has analyzed the significant events reported by EDF and the corrective actions implemented.
