TotalEnergies: investment in forest management in the USA

(CercleFinance.com) - TotalEnergies announced on Friday that it has invested in the sustainable management of forestry operations in the US, aiming to preserve sustainable carbon sinks.


The French energy group says it plans to contribute some $100m to anti-deforestation projects run by Anew Climate and Aurora Sustainable Lands.

The idea, according to Total, is to protect productive forests from overexploitation and support their conversion to sustainable management in order to store more carbon from the atmosphere.

The investment will support improved forest management practices through a portfolio of 20 projects covering 300,000 hectares in 10 US states (Arkansas, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin).

For the record, TotalEnergies plans to spend a total of $100 million per year to build up a portfolio of projects capable of generating at least five million tonnes of CO2 carbon credits per year by 2030.
