GE Vernova: decarbonization contract with France's RTE
(CercleFinance.com) - GE Vernova announced on Thursday that it has signed a contract with RTE, the French high-voltage line operator, to supply its gas-insulated technology with a view to decarbonizing the network.
The American group says it will supply the operator with its 245 kV gas-insulated equipment - without sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) - whose greenhouse gas emissions are 99% lower than systems with SF6.
According to estimates, SF6 has a global warming potential more than 25,000 times greater than CO2, and can remain in the atmosphere for more than 3,000 years.
The contract is part of a pilot project led by RTE to reduce emissions from its electricity transmission infrastructure and accelerate its energy transition.
GE Vernova specifies that the design and production of its SF6-free systems will take place in France.
