USA: very slight fall in jobless claims

(CercleFinance.com) - The Labor Department announced that 231,000 new U.
S. jobless claims were registered for the week ending August 19, down by 2,000 on the previous week (when the figure was revised upwards from 232 to 233,000).

The four-week moving average - more representative of the underlying trend - came in at 231,500, down by 4,750 week-on-week.

Finally, the number of people receiving regular benefits rose by 13,000 to 1,868,000 during the week of August 12, the most recent period available for this statistic.
