Rio Tinto: to support BSL's transition to sustainability

The agreement aims to support the transition of Boyne Smelters Limited (BSL), Australia's second largest aluminum smelter, to renewable energy.

The aim is to ensure BSL's economic viability from 2029, while maintaining its full operational capacity and preserving thousands of jobs in Central Australia.

The partnership is part of the vision to make Gladstone a renewable energy hub, and provides for further investment in sustainable energy projects. This collaboration is a key element in supporting the decarbonization of Australia's aluminum industry.
