Visa: increased spending in Paris thanks to Olympics

(CercleFinance.com) - The day after the Paris 2024 Olympic Games came to an end, Visa reports that the French capital attracted 42% more Visa cardholders during the first week of the games than during the same period in 2023.


Amongst these, Visa cardholders from the US accounted for the largest share of visitors (+72% increase y-o-y), the payment solutions group, an official partner of the event, said.

It adds that other host cities also saw a significant increase in tourists, including Lille (+188%), Saint-Etienne (+150%) and Marseille (+88%), and that its cardholders who attended the competitions spent 20% more than others.

Working with the organizing committee for the past three years, Visa has built a payment network across Paris and beyond, enabling contactless payments at 3,500 points of sale across 32 Olympic and 16 Paralympic venues.
