GSK shares fall, penalized by CDC guidelines

(CercleFinance.com) - GSK shares fell by more than 5% on the London Stock Exchange on Thursday, following an updated recommendation for the use of RSV vaccines by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

In its latest guidelines, the CDC recommends that all people over the age of 75 should receive the vaccine, and that only people between 60 and 74 who are chronically ill or living in a nursing home should receive it.

The CDC did not make any recommendations concerning the 50-59 age group at risk.

These decisions will considerably reduce the market size of Arexvy, GSK's recently approved vaccine to prevent lower respiratory tract disease caused by respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).

The disappointment is all the more severe as GSK had been interested, during clinical trials, in the efficacy of its vaccine in high-risk patients aged 50 to 59.
