SES: successful demonstration of space relay service

(CercleFinance.com) - SES reports that its subsidiary SES Space & Defense has successfully demonstrated the first commercial multi-orbital, multi-band space relay service in support of NASA's Communications Services Project (CSP).


For this demonstration, the Luxembourg-based operator teamed up with Planet Labs, a leading provider of daily global Earth data, and used its O3b mPOWER medium-Earth orbit satellite constellation.

SES Space & Defense and Planet Labs demonstrated a stable data link, validating the hardware, data flow and performance of the end-to-end system. This initiative will help create a commercial market for space relays.
