BT Group: presents new broadcast technology
(CercleFinance.com) - BT Group has unveiled a pioneering new technology providing a more reliable, quality-driven and sustainable way of delivering live content over the Internet.
Called MAUD (Multicast-Assisted Unicast Delivery), the technology aims to improve viewers' experience and increase the efficiency of the complex path content takes to reach them. Leading broadcasters, including the BBC, will be involved in evaluating and eventually trialing the technology to support a range of live content. Unlike traditional 'unicast' broadcasting, where each viewer watches the action via a personal, dedicated Internet stream, MAUD technology uses 'multicast' to combine these single streams into a single shared stream, directing it to those who wish to watch the action.
