Lockheed Martin: breakthrough in on-orbit sensors

(CercleFinance.com) - Lockheed Martin is set to launch a demonstrator of a single broadband Electronic Scanning Antenna (ESA) payload.

For the company, the aim is to showcase its advances in a cutting-edge technology that will enable missions to be accomplished more rapidly once in orbit.

Based on an 'innovative and exclusive' design, this new sensor will be able to be calibrated 'in a fraction of the time required for traditional in-orbit sensors'. As a reminder, historically, it can take months to power up, calibrate and make sensors operational.

This technology is crucial for future remote sensing architectures, assures Lockheed.

Our customers' mission requirements and operational tempo have increased considerably", adds Maria Demaree, Vice President and General Manager of the National Security Space Division at Lockheed Martin Space.

The payload demonstrator is scheduled for launch in December aboard a Firefly Aerospace Alpha rocket, as part of the agreement with Lockheed Martin announced in June.
