GE HealthCare: new connected device approved in US
(CercleFinance.com) - GE HealthCare announced on Monday that one of its new connected medical devices for remotely monitoring patients' health had been approved by the US FDA.
The device, called "Portrait Mobile", is the same size as a smartphone, and aims to avoid prolonged hospitalization by installing a portable system to monitor vital parameters. GE HealthCare says the aim is to be able to quickly identify the first signs of deterioration in patients' health, mainly by measuring their respiratory rate. Undetected deterioration in a patient's health, particularly after surgery, can have disastrous consequences, the group points out, since mortality within 30 days of an operation is now the third leading cause of death worldwide.
