Ford: invests 500 million dollars in next-gen automaker
(CercleFinance.com) - Ford said on Wednesday that it plans to invest 500 million dollars in Rivian, a maker of electric pick-up trucks, to develop a next-generation battery electric vehicle.
The auto giant intends to develop a new vehicle using Rivian's platform, which is shaped like a skateboard.
As a reminder, Ford has confirmed two key fully electric vehicles: a Mustang-inspired crossover coming in 2020 and a zero-emission version of the best-selling F-150 pickup.
Rivian has already developed two vehicles dedicated to "adventurers." The company's launch products - a five-passenger pickup and seven-passenger SUV - will have a range of over 400 miles.
