Equinor: CO2 transport project to decarbonise Europe

(CercleFinance.com) - Equinor announces that it is heading up a project for large-scale decarbonisation of North-Western Europe, in partnership with Fluxys, a Belgian natural gas transmission infrastructure group.

As part of the carbon capture, transport and storage (CCS) process, the two companies have agreed to develop a vast infrastructure aiming to transport the CO2 captured towards safe storage sites in the North Sea. As this project is currently at the feasibility stage, the investment decision is expected to be made by 2025.

The project will in particular be based on linking a 1000-km offshore CO2 export trunkline under the sea bed operated by Equinor to an onshore CO2 transmission infrastructure built and operated by Fluxys.

Over time, other pipeline branches will be able to be connected to the network, thereby increasing the geographical scale of the project (one branch to the port of Dunkirk is envisaged).
