Airbus: new design contract for the A321 MPA

(CercleFinance.com) - Airbus Defence and Space has been awarded a contract by the French Defence Procurement Agency (Direction Générale de l'Armement), in joint venture with Thales, to carry out a risk mitigation study for the future maritime patrol aircraft program (A321 MPA).


This 24-month contract follows on from the architecture and feasibility study launched at the end of 2022. Its aim is to prepare for the launch of the development and production of the maritime patrol aircraft program in late 2026.

This study will enable us to refine the economic and industrial conditions for carrying out the program, to guide the technical choices of the systems to be integrated on the aircraft, and to carry out the first wind tunnel tests.

A militarized version of the Airbus A321XLR, the A321 MPA meets all the operational requirements of the French Navy, mainly in anti-submarine and anti-ship warfare, from low to high intensity, as well as intelligence gathering.
