Toyota: global sales decline in January

(CercleFinance.com) - The Japanese carmaker's global sales declined year-on-year in January 2023 due to the impact of the spread of COVID-19 and the limited supply of semiconductors.

At group level the decline was 3.6% to 795,847 vehicles. At the Toyota brand level the decline was 5.6% to 709,870 vehicles.

However, global production increased y-o-y in Japan and overseas due to a rebound from a decline in production due to the impact of the COVID-19 spread and tight semiconductor supply in the previous year.

The situation remains difficult to predict due to semiconductor shortages and COVID-19. However, the company says that it will continue to closely monitor the parts supply situation and minimise sudden production downturns as much as possible while making every effort to deliver as many vehicles to its clients as soon as possible, it said.
