Rio Tinto: activities halted as cyclone Zelia approaches
(CercleFinance.com) - As a Category 5 tropical cyclone, Zelia, heads for the Pilbara region of Western Australia, Rio Tinto says it is prioritizing the safety of its employees.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, the cyclone will cross the coast between Port Hedland and Karratha on Friday.
The ports of Cape Lambert and Dampier have been cleared and no ships or trains are operating in our ports," says Rio Tinto, adding that Dampier Salt operations in Port Hedland and Dampier are also closed.
It is too early to say how long port and rail operations will be closed and what the impact will be.
Rio Tinto nevertheless assures that its shipment forecasts for 2025 remain unchanged.
