BAE Systems: $70m contract with US Navy
(CercleFinance.com) - BAE Systems announces that it has been awarded a contract worth over $70m by the US Navy to upgrade Mk 45 5-inch naval artillery systems to the Mk 45 Mod 4 standard.
This configuration includes a 62-caliber gun, a reinforced mount and a digital control system integrating targeting and firing data.
These enhancements enable the use of modern ammunition with 50% more firing energy, and pave the way for the integration of precision-guided ammunition.
According to Brent Butcher, Vice President of Weapon Systems at BAE Systems, these upgrades will enhance the defense capabilities of US ships.
Work on the contract will be carried out at BAE Systems' production facility in Louisville, Kentucky, and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2028.
