Alstom: automated monorail goes into service in Bangkok.

(CercleFinance.com) - Alstom announced on Wednesday that its Innovia automated monorail system had entered service on the 'pink' line of Bangkok's mass rapid transit (MRT) line.

This driverless device - which should operate at speeds of up to 80 km/h - is expected to carry more than 470,000 passengers a day, the rail equipment supplier said in a press release.

The pink line, which has 30 stations over a length of 34.5 km, will link the busy Khae Rai station to Min Buri station in less than an hour, cutting journey times by more than 50%.

The line has been designed to link up with five other rail lines and improve connections with the northern districts of Bangkok and Nonthaburi.
