Renault: new collaboration with Nissan and Mitsubishi

(CercleFinance.com) - Renault Group, Nissan Motor and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, have presented several strategic orientations within the framework of a new business model for a cooperation that is aimed at improving the competitiveness and profitability of the three companies.


The three companies approve the principles of the "leader-follower" system for vehicle projects on which they will cooperate. The "leader-follower" principle should make it possible to reduce costs and investment expenditure per model by up to 40%.

The Alliance has also approved the principle of designating different parts of the world as "reference regions", with each company focusing on its key regions. Nissan will become the benchmark in China, North America and Japan; Renault for Europe, Russia, South America and North Africa; and Mitsubishi Motors for ASEAN and Australasia.

Synergies will increase in order to maximise the sharing of fixed costs. Nearly 50% of the Alliance's models will be developed and produced under the leader-follower system by 2025.
