Siemens: Ruhrbahn contract worth around 180 ME
(CercleFinance.com) - Siemens Mobility and Ruhrbahn are to digitize the world's largest light rail interlocking system.
The contract is worth around €180 million.
Siemens Mobility and Ruhrbahn will digitize control and safety technologies in Essen and Mülheim an der Ruhr by 2031.
The modernization will make system interlocking more reliable and energy-efficient.
Guido Rumpel, Head of Rail Infrastructure Germany at Siemens Mobility, said: 'Once completed, passengers will benefit from a more reliable and punctual rail system. The relay technology will be completely replaced, and the system's control and safety technology will be digitally controlled, making the infrastructure more efficient. As part of the project, Siemens Mobility will renew the train control section of around 28 kilometers with 39 stations.'
