Nestlé: database for more resilient coffee trees

(CercleFinance.com) - Nestlé expeerts announce the development of a database which, with the help of artificial intelligence, can be exploited to help select coffee trees that are more resistant to the climate change that is threatening coffee growing.


The Swiss agri-food group's plant scientists are thus exploring new high-yielding Arabica varieties that are more resistant to disease and drought, bearing in mind that around 70% of the world's coffee production is Arabica.

This work was co-directed by Nestlé with the French National Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD), and involves collaborative work with several academic partners as part of a global consortium.
