Disney: 'Captain America' beats 'Paddington' at the box-office
(CercleFinance.com) - The film 'Captain America: Brave New World', produced by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, topped the US box-office by a wide margin this weekend, according to data published by Box Office Mojo.
The fifth installment in the adventures of Marvel's superhero, played by actor Anthony Mackie and screened in 4,105 cinemas, took in $88.5 million over the three days from Monday to Sunday.
Including the $11.5 million in bookings for the Presidents' Day holiday, the film generated a total of $100 million in its first four days of release.
Internationally, it has so far grossed $92.5 million.
According to IMDb.com, the blockbuster was shot on a budget of $180 million.
The animated film 'Paddington in Peru', distributed by Sony Pictures, is in second place at the domestic box office, with $13 million.
Heart Eyes', a Valentine's Day slasher/romantic comedy also distributed by Son, came third with $10 million.
