Nokia: Open access network project for Openreach
(CercleFinance.com) - Nokia announced on Thursday that it had been selected by Openreach, the networks arm of British telecoms operator BT, to roll out an open-access network.
The project - which aims to meet the growing demand for ultra-high-speed connections in the UK - is part of Openreach's goal of connecting some 25 million homes and businesses in the country by 2026.
The Finnish equipment manufacturer explains that its 'Nokia One' platform will provide Openreach with the flexibility it needs to manage its wholesale network, which enables around 300 providers to offer their services in urban areas, towns, villages and more isolated regions.
The project will also enable Openreach to reduce its energy consumption and hardware footprint by over 50%.
The use of Altiplano and NSP technologies, also developed by Nokia, should help automate these activities and reduce the complexity of operations support systems (OSS) by 85%.
Finally, a streaming telemetry solution should provide Openreach with detailed information on the performance and behaviour of its network.
