Apple: EU decides to close antitrust investigation

(CercleFinance.com) - The European Commission has announced the closure of its investigation into potential anti-competitive behavior by Apple and certain conditions applied to developers of competing e-book and audiobook applications for the use of its App Store in the European Economic Area.

Opened in June 2020, the investigation focused on the obligation to use Apple's integrated payment system (IAP) and restrictions preventing developers from informing users of cheaper purchase options.

Following the withdrawal of the complaint lodged against Apple by a distributor of e-books and audiobooks, the Commission has decided to close its antitrust investigation specifically concerning e-book and audiobook applications.

The Commission points out that the closure of an investigation does not constitute a finding that the behavior in question complies with EU competition rules, and that it will continue to monitor commercial practices in the European technology sector, including those of Apple.
