Boeing: set to lay off 10% of workforce
(CercleFinance.com) - In a message to employees, Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg announced his intention to reduce the aircraft manufacturer's workforce by around 10%, to align with its financial reality and a more focused set of priorities.
Beyond navigating our current environment, restoring our business requires tough decisions, and we will need to make structural changes to ensure we can remain competitive, he explains.
For example, regarding the 777X program, Boeing now expects the first delivery not until 2026. It also intends to conclude production of the 767 Freighters in 2027, after delivery of the remaining customer orders.
Regarding BDS (Defense, Space & Security), it anticipates further substantial losses this quarter, due to the work stoppage on commercial derivatives, ongoing program challenges and its decision to end production of the 767 Freighters.
