USA: small rise in ISM services in August

(CercleFinance.com) - Growth in the US service sector picked up slightly in August, according to the results of the Institute for Supply Management's (ISM) monthly survey of purchasing managers.


The ISM services index rose to 51.5 from 51.4 in July, whereas economists were expecting it to average around 51.

The activity sub-index eased to 53.3 from 54.5 the previous month, but the new contracts sub-index improved to 53 from 52.4 in July.

The employment component eased to 50.2 from 51.1 the previous month, just above the 50-point mark indicating an expansion in activity.
