Rolls-Royce: tank modernisation project in Germany
(CercleFinance.com) - Rolls-Royce and FFG Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft (a German company specialising in the construction and modernization of military vehicles), with the support of ZF, are developing a project to modernise the vehicles of the Leopard 1 family (a German battle tank), including the Wisent 1.
The partners plan to replace the old mtu MB838 engine with a more modern engine, the mtu 8V199.
Rolls-Royce says that this new engine offers 'better performance', is 'more economical and reliable', and 'facilitates spare parts management for the armed forces'.
FFG, which is responsible for the development and adaptation of the new powertrain, will work with ZF to update the transmission.
