Boeing: Southeast Asia a major SAF production hub
(CercleFinance.com) - A Boeing-backed report says that Southeast Asia could supply around 12% of global demand for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) by 2050, with an estimated capacity of 45.
7 million tons per year.
Around 75% of this feedstock will come from agricultural and post-consumer waste, with rice playing a key role. Five countries (Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and the Philippines) will account for 90% of this capacity, according to the study.
'Pure' SAF could reduce carbon emissions by up to 84%, but in 2023 it accounted for just 0.2% of global use.
Boeing is working with regional governments to develop sustainable local production and reduce environmental impact.
