Airbus: contract with CNES for a climate mission

(CercleFinance.com) - Airbus has been selected by the Centre national d'études spatiales (CNES) to design and build two new-generation microwave radiometers as part of France's contribution to the Atmospheric Observing System (AOS): the Convective Core Observations through MicrOwave Derivatives in the trOpics mission.

AOS aims to optimise the study of the links between aerosols, clouds, atmospheric convection and precipitation. It is the fruit of cooperation between the US, Canada, Japan, Italy and France.

Comprising six satellites as well as airborne and ground-based suborbital platforms, it will provide key data for improving weather, air quality and climate forecasts.

Only a few weeks after the launch of the EarthCARE mission with Europe and Japan, it is an honor to participate in another climate mission, this time led by NASA with international partners, Airbus said.

With this contract, Airbus further strengthens its role in the fight against climate change, helping better understand clouds, weather and climate.
