SES: successfully launches ASTRA 1P satellite

(CercleFinance.com) - Luxembourg-based satellite operator SES announces the successful launch of the ASTRA 1P satellite aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station (CCSFS) in Florida, US, at 17:35 local time.


With 80 transponders capable of broadcasting 500 HDTV channels, this Ku-band satellite will enable content owners and broadcasters, as well as sports organizations, to reach audiences in Europe's largest TV markets.

This geostationary satellite, the most powerful to operate from the orbital position of 19.2° East, will take over from the four satellites currently in service at this position to continue fulfilling their mission of serving 119 million TV households.
